AI/Deepfake
A 23:02-minute audio clip of Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, SpaceX and xAI, purportedly speaking about India’s rise as a global technology, space, and diplomatic force by creating game-changing systems, naming UPI and its work with AI, among other innovations.
We received this audio clip on our Whatsapp tipline (+91-9999499044), requesting us to fact-check it. The clip has gone viral amid India officially granting a licence to Musk’s Starlink to offer satellite-based internet services, setting the stage for the company’s entry into one of the world’s fastest-growing digital markets.
Newschecker noticed the unnatural and flat speaking tone in the audio clip, along with the overly smooth delivery without pauses for breathing, all signs suggesting that it was AI-generated.
We ran two one-minute excerpts, seen here and here, past the Resemble Deepfake Detector, which deemed them “Fake.” Similarly, the Hive AI-content detection tool, too, said the excerpts were “99.9% likely to contain AI-generated or deepfake content.” We also ran multiple snippets from the audio past Hiya Deepfake Voice Detector, which found them to be “likely deepfake.”
We learnt that this audio clip was first shared on Youtube on July 20, 2025, where the description stated that the deep-dive was “narrated in Elon Musk–style tone,” even as there was a disclaimer stating that it was “altered or synthetic content,” where sound or visuals were significantly edited or digitally generated.
“This isn’t just another commentary channel. At GRIT X, we dive deep into the future of power, strategy, and influence — through the lens of bold, first-principles thinking. Using an altered voice inspired by Elon Musk, we break down complex geopolitical issues into sharp, insightful, and thought-provoking educational content,” read the description of the channel, GRIT X, which features several similar deep dives, further confirming that the viral audio was fake.
