A reverse image search of some of the key frames of the viral video revealed that the visuals were from the first press conference held by Col. Sofia Qureshi after Operation Sindoor. In that press conference held on the morning of May 7, 2025, Col. Sofia Qureshi was not heard talking about her religion. The Colonel instead spoke about India’s counter-terrorism operation, Operation Sindoor, in response to the Pahalgam Terrorist Attack targeting 9 terror camps across Pakistan.
On a closer look at the viral video we found some abnormalities in the way Col Sofia Qureshi spoke, leading us to the suspicion that the viral video may have been edited using artificial intelligence tech, such as deepfake.
We then ran the audio of the viral footage on AI detection platform resemble.ai which found that the audio was AI generated.
Newschecker also verified the audio on Deepfake-O-Meter of the UB Media Forensics Lab, which checked the same on multiple detection models, most of which concluded a high probability of it being AI generated.
Hence, we found that the viral video of Col Sofia Qureshi talking about her religion is a deepfake.
