Photo of a child wounded in the recent attack on the camps of insurgent outfit ULFA-I in Myanmar.
2021 photo of a child injured in an artillery in Myanmar’s Moe Bye shared in false context.
The outlawed insurgent group United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) claimed that the Indian Army carried out a drone attack on its camps in Myanmar’s Sagaing region between 2am to 4 am on Sunday (July 13), killing three of its senior leaders.
Shortly after the allegations went viral, a photo claiming to show a child wounded in the alleged Indian attack on the ULFA-I camps in Myanmar surfaced online. Newschecker, however, found the image to be old and unrelated.

A Google Lens search on the image led us to a Facebook post by Myanmar-based outlet The Irrawaddy from October 2021. Carrying the same photo of a wounded child, it stated, “One killed, six injured in Moe Bye. A civilian was killed and six others, including two children, were injured by regime artillery in Moe Bye on the Shan-Kayah state border, according to a rescue team.” Notably, Moe Bye is a place in Myanmar.
The post credited the image to the Mobye (Moe Bye) Rescue Team.
We then skimmed through the Facebook page of the Mobye Rescue Team and found that the photo was first shared on October 24, 2021, to show children under treatment at the hospital following the attack.

Carrying the same photo, a report by Shan Herald News, dated October 24, 2021, corroborated with the above mentioned details, and stated that one woman was killed, and six others, including two children, aged four and one, were injured in an attack in Moe Bye.
“The military councils fired and fired, and when they fired into the city where there were people, they hit both people and buildings. A woman was killed and two children were injured. A total of six people were injured. I have to say it was worrying (translated from Burmese via Google),” a local was quoted as saying.
The Indian Army has denied carrying out the recent attack on the camps of banned insurgent group ULFA-I camps in Myanmar’s Sagaing.
The PRO Defence Guwahati, Lt Col Mahendra Rawat clarified that there were no inputs with the Indian Army on such an operation.

Hence, we could conclude that the viral photo claiming to show a child injured during the alleged drone attack on the ULFA-I camps in Myanmar is false.
