“A village-level meeting convened at the Jamuna #GaonPanchayat in #Doboka, #Assam turned #violent following a heated altercation between the relatives of an elected #panchayat representative and a group of local residents,” read the description of the video.
“The clash reportedly stemmed from disputes related to past allegations of corruption and administrative irregularities. Eyewitnesses said the confrontation quickly escalated, with individuals attacking one another using plastic chairs as weapons. Several people sustained injuries of varying severity during the incident. The meeting was part of a government-mandated initiative, where local administrations had directed newly elected panchayat representatives to hold special gram sabhas to discuss the implementation of various welfare schemes,” read India Today NE’s report on the incident, dated August 4, 2025.
