While probing the viral video claiming to show a Bangladeshi flag seller being beaten up by a BSF jawan in West Bengal, a reverse image search using key frames led us to a video report published on June 12, 2025 on the YouTube account of Dhaka Post.
The report contained the same frame and sequence of events seen in the viral video. On June 10, a football match was held between Singapore and Bangladesh in Dhaka, Bangladesh, during which some people tried to enter the stadium without a ticket at Gate No. 4. After which the Bangladeshi Army personnel engaged in security lathicharged to bring the situation under control, the report stated.
During the lathicharge, a soldier also lathicharged a person selling flags there. Later, when this matter came to notice, the Bangladeshi Army tracked him down and ensured his well-being and also gave him a compensation of one lakh Bangladeshi Taka.
We also found another report related to this published on the website of Jamuna TV on June 11, 2025. which revealed that after the case came to light, the Army tracked down the flag seller promptly. Lieutenant Colonel Afzalur Rahman Chowdhury of the Bangladesh Army met the flag seller on June 11 and expressed regret over the incident. During this time, the Army also gave one lakh taka to the flag seller as a gesture of sympathy.
Apart from this, we also found a video report related on the YouTube account of Bangladeshi news outlet Global TV news. This video report also carried similar information.
Our investigation makes it clear that the video being shared with the claim that a Bangladeshi flag seller is being beaten up by a BSF jawan in West Bengal is actually from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, where the Bangladeshi Army resorted to lathicharge during a football match at the National Stadium in Dhaka on June 10.
