A video circulating on social media claims that during the anti-government protests in Nepal, people confronted a TV anchor accused of spreading fake news in favour of the government.

A video is being shared on social media claiming that during the recent violent protests in Nepal, people confronted a TV anchor who was allegedly broadcasting fake news in support of the government. Archived links of these posts can be viewed here and here
A reverse image search of key frames from the viral video led us to a YouTube video posted by SPACE 4K Television on September 10, 2025. This video matched the viral clip and showed locals capturing a man suspected of looting the National Commercial Bank of Nepal.
An Instagram account from Nepal (September 10, 2025) carried images linked to the viral video. A user named Malti commented, “Please help. He is an honest person. He is my father. He has a shop near Nasa College.”
On reviewing Malti’s Instagram profile, Newschecker found another account belonging to Satyanarayan Sahni. Photos posted there matched the visuals in the viral clip.
When contacted, Sanjay Sahni, brother of Satyanarayan, confirmed his identity. He stated: “Satyanarayan has been living in Tinkune Gari, Kathmandu for 30 years. He runs a small tea and snack shop. Their native village is Sidhpakla, Madhubani district, Bihar. Satyanarayan returned to Kathmandu on September 9, 2025, after visiting Dhansa, near the Bihar–Nepal border.”
According to Sanjay, the next morning Satyanarayan went for a walk when locals confronted him and recorded the viral video. Since then, he has gone missing. Sanjay shared multiple photographs of Satyanarayan and his Aadhaar card (withheld for privacy). Visual comparisons confirm he is the same person as seen in the viral video.
Sanjay also released a video statement asserting his brother’s innocence and appealing for justice.
