Viral video claiming to show the “cab mafia” forcing passengers into their taxis in Tamil Nadu.
Viral claim is false, shows a dispute between a woman and a newlywed couple.
Several social media users are circulating a 56-second video, where a woman can be seen arguing with a man, who tugs at her hand at the airport, claiming that it shows the alleged cab mafia forcing passengers into their taxis in Tamil Nadu.
”…Cab mafias are forcing passengers into their cabs and police acting as agents of #CabMafia at airports. Look how cab drivers are forcibly dragging women into cabs at airports,” read a post, which condemns the ruling DMK government.

Newschecker ran a reverse image search of keyframes, which led us to this report by leading Tamil media outlet Vikatan, dated March 27, 2025, with its headline reading, “’Is she also on honeymoon after marrying me?’ – A woman argues with a young man at Coimbatore airport!”
The article, which shared multiple screengrabs of the viral video, stated that a young woman argued with a man, who was returning from his honeymoon, at the Coimbatore airport, accusing him of cheating on her.
We also came across this March 27, 2025 X post by Indian Express Tamil, sharing a longer and clearer version of the video. “’After marrying me, he went on a honeymoon with her’… Woman abuses newlywed couple: Commotion at Coimbatore airport,” read the Tamil post.
According to Indian Express Tamil’s report on the video, dated March 27, 2025, the incident took place on March 26, when a flight from Chennai landed in Coimbatore, where two passengers, a man and a woman, were confronted by another woman who claimed that the man was her husband and was cheating on her. Another man, supposedly a relative of the newly wed couple, tried to drag the woman away from the scene. However, she got in an altercation with the person, too, before a security guard intervened. “The Peelamedu police are investigating the matter,” further stated the report.
Similar reports can be seen here and here, further confirming that the viral video was of a personal dispute and does not show a taxi driver misbehaving with a woman at a Tamil Nadu airport.
The Tamil Nadu government’s fact-check unit also debunked the viral claim on August 16, 2025, stating, “The video actually shows a personal dispute in which a woman confronted her unfaithful lover at Coimbatore airport in March. It is being misrepresented online with the false claim that taxi drivers at Tamil Nadu airports are harassing passengers.”
