Fact Check
A video shows the recent outbreak of violence in Manipur’s Churachandpur.
A reverse image search of the viral clip led to a YouTube video uploaded on September 7, 2015, by user @lalboisamte6283. The longer version of the same footage was titled: “September 1, 2015: Violent protest broke out in Manipur after the passage of three controversial land bills by the Manipur Assembly. This footage captures irate mobs outside Lamka Police station in Churachandpur after it was found that the police lobbed expired tear gas shells on them.”
Keyframe comparison confirms that the viral video is identical to this older footage.
In 2015, the Manipur Assembly had passed three controversial bills, Protection of Manipur People Bill 2015, Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (Seventh Amendment) Bill 2015, and Manipur Shops and Establishment (Second Amendment) Bill 2015. This triggered statewide protests.
A Telegraph report from September 1, 2015, noted that protesters set fire to the Churachandpur police station, leading to police retaliation in which three protesters were killed and two injured.
A photograph listed on Getty Images also shows the same location featured in the viral video, linking it to the above-mentioned unrest.

While Newschecker could not independently verify other details, the video clearly dates back to at least 2015 and is unrelated to the recent wave of violence in Manipur.
