Old Video Of Israeli Strike Flattening Building In Lebanon Falsely Shared As Pakistan

Claim

Indian Army bombing a building in Pakistan, as part of the retaliation following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam.

Fact

Newschecker ran a reverse image search of keyframes, which led us to a longer version of the video shared in a November 22, 2024 report by Turkey-based IHA News.

”Israeli forces struck the Burj Shemali district, the town of Deir Mimas, the south of the capital Beirut, the Qotrani Town and the Deir Qanoun Ras Al-Ain Town in Lebanon. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, the attacks killed three health workers in the town of Qotrani and two health workers in the town of Deir Qanoun Ras Al-Ain and injured several more,” read the report.

A further search led us to this The Guardian report, dated November 22, 2024, sharing a clearer version of the video, stating that it showed the moment an Israeli strike brought down a building in the Chiyah area of Beirut’s southern suburbs on 22 November. “The strike came as the UN reported heavy clashes between Israeli troops and Hezbollah in south Lebanon. Israel sent ground forces into south Lebanon on 1 October as part of its stepped-up offensive against Hezbollah. It says its aim is to secure the return home of tens of thousands of people evacuated from Israel’s north due to rocket attacks by the militant Iran-backed group, which opened fire in support of Hamas at the start of the Gaza war in October 2023,’ read the report.

We compared a screengrab of the viral video (left) and with the footage published by The Guardian (right), further confirming that the viral claim is false.
