Fact Check
A viral video claims to show Purnea MP Pappu Yadav breaking down after being denied a spot on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s van during a Mahagathbandhan protest against the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar on July 9.

A reverse image search of the viral clip led to a YouTube post by Headlines India, dated September 6, 2018. This longer version of the video shows Pappu Yadav breaking down after an incident in Muzaffarpur, not during the recent Bihar protest.
The 2018 incident occurred while Yadav was on his way to attend an event and reportedly faced hostility from bandh supporters during a ‘Bharat Bandh’ called to protest amendments to the SC/ST Act.
NDTV published a report with a photo from the same 2018 incident, confirming that Yadav was seen breaking down in front of media persons after facing the “wrath of bandh supporters” in Muzaffarpur.

According to ANI, then Muzaffarpur SSP Harpreet Kaur denied any attack on Yadav, stating that videos and photographs did not show any assault. Kaur clarified that Yadav wanted to go to the National Highway but was asked by protesters to turn back, and that a minor scuffle occurred between his bodyguard and the protesters as per the SHO.
Commenting on the recent row, Pappu Yadav said, “I fell down and got hurt. One leader from each party was present there, but this is not an insult. Who sees this as what it depends on them… Nothing is greater than the public; it is acceptable to be insulted for them (public), not just once but even a million times…”
The viral video does not show Pappu Yadav crying after being denied a place on Rahul Gandhi’s vehicle during the July 9, 2025 protest. Instead, it is an old clip from 2018, unrelated to the recent Bihar Bandh. The claim is false.
