Rohit Sharma says that he is not affected by anyone’s remarks following the recent controversial comments by Shama Mohamed.
Video from January 2025 shared out of context.
Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed is facing massive backlash after she commented on Rohit Sharma’s weight and called him ‘unimpressive’ as a captain in a now-deleted social media post.
She later clarified that it was a generic post about the fitness of a sportsperson. “It was not body-shaming. I always believed a sportsperson should be fit, and I felt he was a bit overweight, so I just tweeted about that. I have been attacked for no reason,” she said.
While the Congress distanced itself from the controversy, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya called the remarks “not only deeply shameful but also outright pathetic.”
In this backdrop, an alleged video of Rohit Sharma is being widely shared, where he can be heard saying in Hindi, “…someone sitting inside with a mic, or a laptop, or pen….What they write, what they say, doesn’t change our lives. We have played this game for so many years…People can’t decide when we will go, when we should play…when we should not do captaincy. I am a sensible person, a mature person… I know what I want in life.”
Multiple users are sharing the video with Hindi captions: “What anyone writes or says on X, does not matter to Rohit Sharma.” Newschecker, however, found that the video was shared out of context.

Rohit Sharma, who was battling a poor form, did not play a match against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground during the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy, prompting speculations about his future in the team. The same was, however, dismissed by the cricketer in an interview during the Day 2 of the match, and clarified that he is not retiring.
The viral clip is taken from the same interview, and can be seen around 7 minutes in this video.
Moreover, we did not find any credible reports on Sharma’s reaction to the ongoing controversy triggered by Shama Mohamed’s social media post. We did not find any such comments by the Indian cricketer on his official social media handles as well.
