Video shows Tripura tribals attacking Bangladeshi infiltrators with arrows.
Video from Indonesia’s Intan Jaya showing clashes between supporters of two electoral candidates.
A nearly 15-second-long video showing an alleged clash between two groups, with one of them wielding bows and arrows, has gone viral on social media platforms, with users alleging that it shows tribals in Tripura attacking the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. Newschecker, however, found the claim to be untrue.
The footage is being circulated across platforms with users hailing the alleged Tripura tribe’s action against Bangladeshi infiltrators.

A reverse image search on the keyframes of the viral clip led us to an Instagram post by @warungjurnalis, dated December 9, 2024. Carrying the same footage, it stated, “the clash between the masses of supporters of the candidate pairs in the Intan Jaya Regency Pilkada, Central Papua Province…(translated from Indonesian via Google).” Notably, Central Papua is a part of Indonesia.
We then looked up keywords “candidate pair,” “supporters,” “Intan Jaya” and “clash” in Indonesian on Google which yielded a report by Indonesia-based VIVAcoid, dated December 9, 2024. Carrying a screengrab from the viral clip, it corroborated, “ A video showing riots between supporters of a candidate pair for regent in Intan Jaya ,Central Papua, has gone viral on social media…”

“This commotion was triggered by suspicions from supporters of candidate pair number 3, Apolos Bagau, who accused candidate pair number 1, Aner Maiseni, of stealing their votes (translated from Indonesian via Google),” it added.
Further, we found that the full video was also shared on the official YouTube channel of the outlet on December 10, 2024, and can be seen here.
Another report by kumparanNews, dated December 9, 2024, featured a screengrab from the viral clip, and stated, “Papua Police Public Relations Chief Senior Commissioner Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo said the clash between supporters of the Regent-Deputy Regent candidates in Intan Jaya was caused by suspicions about missing votes—taken by the opposing candidate pair (translated from Indonesian via Google).”

Hence, we find that the viral posts claiming to show video of Tripura tribals attacking Bangladeshi infiltrators with bows and arrows are false. The video is from Indonesia’s Intan Jaya showing clashes between supporters of two electoral candidates.
