Unrelated Video Falsely Shared as Footage of Cyclone Dana’s Impact in Odisha

A Google lens search on the keyframes of the viral clip led us to a YouTube video by @BOMBAYBEATSBITES, dated May 18, 2021. It featured the same visuals of huge waves washing up on the shore as seen in the viral clip.

The same video was also uploaded on YouTube channel @ryanbharathedits on May 15, 2021 to allegedly show Cyclone Tauktae’s effect in Kanyakumari.

A Facebook post by @assamHtok, dated May 15, 2021, featured the same footage that has been shared to show Cyclone Dana “unleashing fury in Odisha.”

Multiple such posts from 2021, such as this, this and this, carried the same footage.

We were not independently able to ascertain the exact location seen in the video. However, it dates back to at least May 2021, and does not show the impact of Cyclone Dana in Odisha.
