US Plane Flies ‘Welcome Asim Munir’ Banner? Edited Image Goes Viral

A viral image claiming to show an aeroplane in the US flying a banner that reads, “Welcome Asim Munir”, ahead of the Pakistan Army chief’s expected visit.

The archived version of the post can be seen here. Pakistan Army chief Asim Munir is reportedly set to visit the US for the second time in two months, which signals a deepening of ties between Islamabad and Washington amid rising tensions between the US and India over tariffs on exports.

Fact

Newschecker ran a keyword search for “Welcome Asim Munir banner US plane”, which did not lead us to any credible news reports about such an incident.

However, we did come across multiple news reports stating that during the Pakistan-West Indies cricket match in Florida on Monday (August 4, 2025), a plane circled over the stadium with a powerful message painted on its banner: “Resign Asim Munir.”  

“The flying protest reportedly comes amid growing criticism of Pakistan’s on‑field leadership under Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, and speculation is swirling about possible behind‑the‑scenes pressure, including whispers that Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan’s interior minister, may be involved in the unfolding drama,” read a MoneyControl report, dated August 4, 2025, sharing an X post featuring the video.

A reverse image search led us to this picture on online art marketplace, Fine Art America. “THIS IS MY HAPPY PLACE, Plane Banner is a piece of digital artwork by Celestial Images which was uploaded on April 30th, 2021,” read the caption of the image, which was under the “art prints” section of the website.

A comparison of the original image (left) with the viral photo (right), especially the shape of the clouds and the plane, confirmed that the original artwork was edited to replace the banner text.
