Newschecker noticed that the video has also been shared with the claim that the incident happened in Karnataka, raising our doubts on the location.
We then ran a reverse image search of keyframes, which led us to the same video shared on X on April 24, 2025, by Uttar Pradesh-based journalist, Piyush Rai, who said that the incident happened in UP’s Jaunpur, where SHO Vinod Mishra brutally flogged a man held around a pillar in Mungrabadsahpur police station.
A further search led us to the same video shared by the Samajwadi Party’s official X account on April 24, 2025, stating that the incident took place in Jaunpur. We found that the video and its screengrabs were featured in multiple media reports, including Navbharat Times, ETV Bharat, Amar Ujala, and Free Press Journal, reiterating that the incident took place in Jaunpur.
“Jaunpur superintendent of police took disciplinary action on Saturday by suspending an inspector who was captured in a viral video subjecting a youth to severe physical abuse. Two constables who assisted the inspector during the incident faced suspension as well. Jaunpur Superintendent of Police Kaustubh said as the investigation report confirmed misbehaviour with a youth by Mungra Badshahpur police station’s former in-charge Vinod Kumar Mishra, he was suspended,” read a Times of India report, April 27, 2025, further confirming that the incident is not from Tamil Nadu.
