Fact Check
Video Of Rahul Gandhi Addressing Massive Crowd From The Roof Of A Bus Is NOT From ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ In Bihar

Claim
Visuals show Rahul Gandhi addressing a massive gathering from atop a bus during the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar.
Fact
2024 video of the Congress leader’s address to university students at Assam-Meghalaya border.
Congress leader and LoP Rahul Gandhi began his 16-day ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ from Sasaram in poll-bound Bihar on August 17, 2025. The march, which comes against the backdrop of the Congress’ accusations of “vote chori” against the ECI and widespread opposition against the SIR in the state, will conclude on September 1, 2025 with a mega rally in Patna.
Shortly after the march was kicked off, a video purportedly showing Gandhi addressing a massive gathering from atop a bus during the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra,’ after allegedly being stopped by the police, surfaced on social media platforms.
Newschecker, however, found the video to be old and unrelated to the current march in Bihar.

Fact Check/Verification
A keyword search for “Rahul Gandhi,” “bus,” “Voter Adhikar Yatra” and “police” on Google did not return any credible result supporting the claim.
On carefully examining the video, we heard Gandhi mentioning “Assam” while addressing the gathering, raising our suspicion.
We then looked up the keyframes of the footage on Google Lens which directed us to a YouTube post by Timeline, dated January 23, 2024, titled “Rahul Gandhi Addresses Students Outside USTM University After Authorities Deny Him Entry.” The post featured the now viral video of the Congress leader, confirming that it is not linked to the recent ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar.

Taking a clue, we looked up keywords “Rahul Gandhi,” “address” and “USTM University” on Google which yielded a video report by MoneyControl from January 2024. It featured a video of Gandhi’s same address from a different angle, and stated that Rahul Gandhi’s scheduled interaction with the students of the USTM University, located at the Assam-Meghalaya border, was cancelled after Home Minister Amit Shah’s involvement in the matter, alleged the Congress Party.

A report by India Today NE further corroborated that Gandhi addressed a spontaneous and massive gathering of students outside the USTM University at Assam-Meghalaya border from atop his bus, after his invitation was allegedly revoked. The Congress leader then held a spontaneous interaction with students at a hotel nearby, the report added.
The official YouTube channel of Rahul Gandhi also live streamed his speech from atop the bus on January 23, 2024, with the caption, “Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra | Jorabat to Guwahati | Meghalaya to Assam.
