Several social media users are circulating a video, purportedly showing four men beating a bull to death, claiming it to be from ISKCON’s farm in Bangladesh. The video has gone viral days after the controversial arrest of a monk, Chinmoy Krishna Das, linked to the Hindu organisation.

Fact Check

Newschecker ran a reverse image search of keyframes, which led us to this X post by ‘Journalist Faisal’, dated November 19, 2024, urging action against the accused. The post, however, does not state where the incident took place.

PETA India replied to the post, stating that an FIR had already been registered at the Sadar police station under relevant sections of the BNS.

Taking a cue from this, a corresponding keyword search led us to The Tribune’s November 20, 2024 report on the incident, headlined, “Outrage in Jalandhar as cow flogged to death, video viral”.

“A disturbing incident of animal cruelty has sparked outrage in the city after a video surfaced showing the brutal beating of a cow, which ultimately led to its death. The video, which went viral on social media, prompted a group of residents, led by Shrist Bakshi of the Animal Protection Foundation, to demand action from the authorities…The complaint, addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar, emphasised that the incident could be part of a larger network involved in illegal cow slaughter and beef trading, which is punishable under the Punjab Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act, 1955,” read the report.

We next spoke to Yuvi Singh of the Animal Protection Foundation in Jalandhar, who had lodged a complaint. He clarified that the video showed a bull being beaten to death by four men at a farm called Jamsher Dairy Complex in Jalandhar, Punjab. He said that based on the organisation’s complaint, the police have registered an FIR and have started an investigation. “All those involved in the incident are Hindus. There is no communal angle to it. We have lodged a complaint with the police DSP. The police continue to search for the accused. The FIR in the case has been uploaded on our Facebook page,” he said. We found a copy of the complaint filed by the organisation with the police on their Facebook page on November 18, 2024.
