Fact Check
In the past week, Newschecker received a majority of claims related to COVID-19 as well as Indian politicians. Queries ranged from a misleading video of “COV-19” inscribed on a circuit board to a manipulated image of PM Modi bowing to Founder of Reliance Foundation, Nita Ambani. Additionally, a fake matrimonial ad of a vaccinated bride seeking a vaccinated groom went viral.
The video of a man filming himself wearing a hard hat does not show COV-19 labelled circuit board ready to be fitted to a 5G mast. A London-based documentary maker created this video in an attempt to show how easy it is to start a conspiracy theory.
The image of a matrimonial newspaper clipping shared by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and a few media organisations is fake. A citizen created this ad to encourage people to get themselves vaccinated against COVID-19.
The photograph of PM Narendra Modi bowing with folded hands to Nita Ambani is manipulated. The original image has Modi bowing to Deepika Mondol, Chief Functionary of the NGO, Divya Jyoti Cultural Organization and Welfare Society.
The viral audio clip criticising protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act has been falsely attributed to Supreme Court lawyer Harish Salve. The audio clip was made by Janam TV COO, Suresh Kochattil.
The claim that DMK leader Selvakumar kicked a lady doctor on duty is misleading. The video is in fact from 2018 and shows him assaulting a woman in a beauty parlour.
