The past week Indian social media witnessed a majority of misleading claims related to political and religious themes. This includes claims by BJP leaders on an illegal cross built in Edlapadu, AP, the Assam government closing madrassas in the state, and a youth arrested in Ferozepur, Punjab.

Assam is not closing all madrassas in the state. Only state-run madrassas and Sanskrit schools will be closed and converted into regular schools.

The claims made by AP BJP leaders that a cross was being illegally built at a Hindu worship site in Edlapadu are false. The site with Sita’s footprints is in a different location from that of the cross.

1962 Photograph Of Jawaharlal Nehru At A Congress Party Meeting In Patna Shared With Misleading Claims

Photograph attributed to Jawaharlal being slapped by Swami Vidyanand Videh for saying that “Aryans were refugees in India” in 1962 is misleading. The image was found in the archives of the Associated Press describing it as a security man grabbing Nehru from plunging into a riotous crowd at a Congress party meeting in Patna.
