Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin allegedly said, “Small money is involved, so World Championship of Legends got cancelled, but India is still playing Pakistan in Asia Cup & BCCI hasn’t cancelled it, as the amount of money decides the level of Patriotism.”
The archived version of the post can be seen here. The posts went viral amid the outcry over BCCI’s “double standards” following the announcement of the India-Pakistan clash during the Asia Cup in September, just a few months after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. Earlier, the India vs Pakistan clash in the ongoing World Championship of Legends (WCL) was cancelled following a social media uproar.
Newschecker first ran a keyword search for “R Ashwin Asia Cup,” which did not lead us to any credible news reports about such a statement by the cricketer.
We then looked up his official Youtube channel, popular among cricket lovers for his candid views on the game. We did not find any such discussion pertaining to the upcoming Asia Cup, whose fixtures were announced on Saturday (July 26). Ashwin’s latest video was uploaded on July 28, where he reviewed the recently concluded drawn Test match between India and England in Manchester. The previous video where he previewed the Test match was posted on July 22, 2025.
Ashwin took to X on July 28, 2025, calling out the viral quote, which was being attributed to him, as fake.
