Video shows mass culling of stray dogs following the controversial SC directive to relocate the animals in Delhi-NCR to shelters within eight weeks.
Video is from Vietnam, shows two men arrested on suspicion of stealing dogs.
A distressing one-minute video, purportedly showing a group of men taking out bodies of dogs from black plastic bags, is going viral amid a raging nationwide debate against the Supreme Court’s August 11, 2025 directive to relocate dogs in Delhi-NCR to shelters within eight weeks.
“Has it been said to catch the dog and keep it in one place, or has it been said to kill the dog? If this is a policy of killing dogs, it should not happen; should we raise our voice against it? What do you say..?” reads the Hindi post.
The SC, on August 14, had reserved its order on petitions challenging its directive to remove all stray dogs from Delhi-NCR streets and confine them permanently in shelters. The petitions, seeking a recall of the order, raised concerns over the lack of infrastructure to implement the directive and its health consequences.
Newschecker ran a reverse image search of keyframes, which led us to a clearer and longer version of the viral video uploaded on Facebook on August 4, 2025, a week before the SC order. “Professional group of (dog) thieves in Gia Rai ward, Ca Mau,” read the Vietnamese post.
Taking a cue, a relevant keyword search led us to this Instagram post, dated August 6, 2025, sharing excerpts from the viral video. “…The thieves were caught in a police operation, and twelve dead dogs [intended for dog meat] were found in the bags. The thieves, Lam Hai Trung and Quach Dung Binh, admitted that the twelve dead dogs were obtained by them through criminal acts…” read the post, stating that the incident happened in Ca Mau, Southern Vietnam on August 3, 2025
“Police in Ca Mau Province, southern Vietnam have arrested two men suspected of stealing dogs across Gia Rai Ward, seizing 12 dead dogs and several tools commonly used in pet theft, local authorities reported on Monday,” read an August 5, 2025 report by Vietnamese media outlet, Tuoi Tre News, further confirming the viral claim to be false.
